Against All Odds
This is my first post as an official blogger. I will appreciate your comments, because what a cool way to learn from each and everyone who is courageous enough to speak.
I was at work the other day and found it interesting that an act I didn’t consider courageous was considered courageous by others. What I heard my colleagues say was, “Oh no, I could never do that!” This gave me pause, since I consider myself not to be overly courageous. I then reflected on my heroes and I realized they all had one thing in common; I consider them courageous. My conclusion? Courage is a value I consider important. Considering that, I questioned, what makes someone courageous? Creating a blog, traveling, finding a new job? Heck, for some using a computer would be frightening.
I believe it’s because there are limiting beliefs at work here, preventing many from taking steps toward a life they’d like to live. Staying where we live is very comfortable, like an overstuffed chair. So they are resigned to stay in the life they’ve created, instead of living a life they’d like to live. They think change won’t make a difference. When in truth, they are afraid of failing or quite possibly succeeding; not an uncommon phenomenon really. Who hasn’t been afraid of taking that first step, going to that tricky place where one could easily stumble and fall. I’ve been there, and I’m sure many of you have felt the same way. But……if you take that one small teensy step, there is the possibility, that, that deep breath you are holding will keep you from tripping over you own two feet. This is the one safe place where your closest friend, your mom or dad, your spouse that holds your hand just in case you fall. Guess what? That safe place could possibly be even YOU; giving you the strength and courage to get back up. You’ve then taken a bold move against all odds, a courageous act.
This is why I am called to be a life coach, a guide, so to speak. To help those who have dreams, who believe they don’t have the strength or courage to put their dreams into play. I want to see people smile when they suddenly realize THEY created a new place, a foundation, to get them closer to a life they thought wasn’t possible. I want to offer them an opportunity to create a life they choose to live, not to bury themselves in that overstuffed chair, that is, settle for the status quo. We all have dreams we’d love to embrace. I can show you how to claim your dreams without letting go of your safety net, against all odds.
Regards,
Coach Sue

And it takes courage to put yourself out there to others on a blog…..and ask for comments.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step…….it’s taking that one step that takes the most courage. Some times you are forced to take that step…..and find the courage within yourself you never knew you had……..and that’s what makes life the journey that it is………never mind the size of those steps (whether it’s stepping outside your door and walking the neighborhood or backpacking across Europe)…..they are steps, none-the-less.

Courage! What makes a King out of a slave?
Courage! What makes the flag on the mast to wave?
Courage! What makes the elephant charge his tusk, in the misty mist or the dusky dusk?
What makes the muskrat guard his musk?
Courage! What makes the sphinx the seventh wonder?
Courage! What makes the dawn come up like thunder?
Courage! What makes the Hottentot so hot? What puts the “ape” in apricot?
What have they got that I ain’t got?
All Four
Courage!

Then you can say that again!
Beautifully written! To live our best lives, we need to keep pushing the envelop- give something new a try and beleive that we will learn a few more tricks or maybe surprise ourselves and succeed where we thought we couldn’t…never hurts to maintain a sense of humor too. Thanks for including me in your blog.
Toastmasters has helped me tremendously over the years. Public speaking still makes me nervous, but facing those fears on a regular basis has been good for me.
Beautifully written.
I am so very proud of you.
The hardest part of trying something new is deciding to do it. Once you get past that first step, then you wish you would’ve tried it sooner. Very nice, Sue.
